Inspiration for Connect And Join ™

Connect And Join ™ was developed by Linda Dennis after viewing a Tour of Duty: Kosovo, a personal account presented by Colonel James Lockemy of the South Carolina National Guard.  Colonel Lockemy, an attorney and Circuit Court Judge in South Carolina, is now a retired Brigadier General.  

Included in Colonel Lockemy’s presentation were slides of long lines of soldiers in the foreign theater waiting in line to check email, only to learn very often that there were real problems with the attachments.   To quote Colonel Lockemy:  “When away from home, the soldier is hungry for any news from home.  It is a great morale booster. Sometimes there are complications with email that it is frustrating.”

In recent years, Ms. Dennis had been involved in providing technology based projects for children with family separation issues at an inner city computer lab camp. She was also a member of the publishing team for PC Teach It, a K-8 technology based magazine for the teacher.  She experienced family separation first hand during her husband’s deployment when he was a member of the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War time period.

With the help and encouragement of Colonel Lockemy, Connect And Join ™ went beyond an idea, to a focus group and now today to a system!
